This show from Germany in 1993 features Jimmy Haslip, John Molo and J.T. Thomas.
This was partway through an insane schedule for Bruce – he played in one in mid-June, then D.C. on June 20, London the next day, then this show in Germany 48 hours later he was back in DC to play with the Grateful Dead.
In the rush, he forgot to bring his accordion with him, so this round of shows in Europe is the same jazz trio from Harbor Lights, released two months earlier: Bruce, John Molo on drums and Jimmy Haslip on bass. John J.T. Thomas is also on keyboards.
“Passing Through” is played live for the first time ever with that lineup, and we have the first “Girl from the North Country” (Bob Dylan) for a long time.
The requests were… interesting! .. including “Little Wing” complete with chord changes, which got a tease although Bruce didn’t know the words. (That particular request followed Bruce around for years in Europe).
“Rainbow’s Cadillac” at this time was a particular favourite of mine – I was at the show in London mentioned above and Bruce opened with it. It’s a highlight in this show also.
A solo “The Show Goes On” is just a perfect way to finish this show from Hamburg.
