This 2012 show closes with Paul Hoffman on mandolin.
Moyes Lucas was filling in on drums this night, and tore through See the Same Way, which he hadn’t even rehearsed before. Bruce acknowledged that and rewarded him with more of the same – they followed up with Mirror on the Wall, crazy middle section and all. Moyes hadn’t even seen the band for a year, and filled in flawlessly.
End of the Innocence teases Awake My Soul (Mumford and Sons) and Funhouse finishes with You Sexy Thing.
Bruce picks up the dulcimer and wanders into Pete Townshend’s Won’t Get Fooled Again, which surprised even him!
The Way It Is gets an introduction I haven’t heard before or since, and Foruntate Son is somehow worked into Rainbow’s Cadillac!
The band in Wellston was Bruce Hornsby, Bobby Read (sax), Moyes Lucas (drums), J.V. Collier (bass), Doug Derryberry (guitar) and J.T. Thomas (keyboards).
