Another three hour show! Look out for Bruce and Cassidy in Cassidy’s Cadillac.
This show happened to be a month or so after Bruuuce.com started (yes, it’s been almost 24 years!) and this was one of the first bootlegs I heard. It remains one of my favourite to this day. He had a knowledgeable crowd (he gets requests from the Spirit Trail record a couple of months before its release) and also the persistent (someone makes a request for Jack Straw before Bruce has played a note).
It’s also three years into Bruce’s recommitment to the piano – he remarks after The Way It Is, “I’m a lot better than I was a few years ago – I could not do that then!”
We get a few choice covers, in amongst them a gorgeous How Far Am I From Canaan, The Boxer into My Romance, Low Spark of the High-Heeled Boys and … Cassidy’s Cadillac (see picture below). Bruce had invited some kids on stage, and Cassidy was surely game. It soon became Cassidy’s concert, and he’s still at the piano as Bruce plays Rainbow’s/Cassidy’s Cadillac!
Featuring John Hornsby on request-handling.
